2 Must Visit Onsens In Niseko

After a long day skiing or Snowboarding in Niseko, one of the best ways for your muscles to recover to get ready for another day on the hill is to take an onsen. For many people that are on holidays in Japan, taking an onsen can be a little intimidating and often justifies tourists skipping the onsen experience. However, when the initial hesitation is overcome, many visitors will find that taking an onsen at the end of the day is a highlight of the trip as they feel rejuvenated, refreshed, relaxed, clean and ready to tackle the world.

Here are 2 onsens that you must visit while in Niseko:

  1. Yukoro – Located in the lower part of the village, it is popular with locals and tourists. With gender specific areas, Yukoro is a great choice for your first onsen experience. There is a choice of baths with indoor and outdoor available. During winter the outdoor bath is a fantastic experience, sitting outside while snow is falling around you while you sit and soak in a hot steaming bath is truly unique. For an adult (13 +) the Yokoro experience is approximately 600 yen and 300 yen for a child (4 to 12).
  2. Popolo – Located at the Scot Hotel at the top of the village giving you amazing vistas of the town and out towards Mt. Yotei (the Mt Fuji of Hokkaido). Popolo is very convenient if you want to go straight from the ski hill in to an onsen as it is directly across from the main quad lift. Slightly more expensive than Yukoro at 800 yen for an adult (13 +) and 300 yen for children (12 and under), pre-schoolers are free.
