How does snow accumulating on the sides of mountains turn into glacier ice?
I’m not exactly sure. Is it that the snow continues to pile up, adding pressure to the snow beneath. The pressure compresses the snow, and heat is released, melting the bottom layer of snow. This melted snow eventually freezes again becoming glacier ice. Is that correct?
Also, how does this pressure make the ice plastic and flow? Would this be internal deformation?

Yes, that is correct. And the rule is that more snow has to fall in the winter season that can melt in the summer, thus forming a glacier. Eventually the weight will overcome the friction at the bottom of the glacier and it begins to move. It is only minimally plastic. Where it has to bend it breaks into sections that can continue and often refreezes together again.
